I just
returned from another excellent African Safari with Wayne Grant in Zimbabwe.
Guns and ammunition went very smoothly
in both South African and Zimbabwe. There are new forms to fill out. Both
were fast and exceptionally organized. I was hunting
with Wayne and shot the usual plains game from the Matopas mountains;
leopard, genets civets and cats. It's an amazing
place. Wayne's camp is on top of a mountain with a cozy, comfortable stone
building and campfire overlooking a panoramic view
of the valley and mountains. I'm actually writing this story from a caracal
hide on a ledge looking down the mountainside. You can hear all the sounds
of the Christmas beetles and different species of francolin. There is
a large beehive next to me and I can hear the hive buzzing. My brother
the beekeeper would love this. The trip is like always, one adventure
after the next. We stay in blinds. We make many depending on what is hunting
our baits. Some blinds are in trees, some in cliffs. There is always a
mattress with blankets so you're comfortable all night. It always feel
like home when I'm here. Wayne puts more effort into hunting then anybody
that I've hunted with, combined with his 25 plus years experience and
130 leopards he personally collected with clients. He is the real deal.
This season he had 15 leopard hunters, 17 leopard were shot and 5 of those
were giants. I often fell asleep in the blind and he would rig up a stick
to fall on my leg when the bait was moved from a piece of fishing line.
Worked perfect. We always laugh, its like being fourteen again. His wife
Margaret and his staff do a great job dealing with the everyday inconveniences
of working in Zimbabwe. I've shot some great trophies on this trip. I
shot a huge klipspringer, huge wildebeest, zebra, kudu, rusty spotted
genets and two beautiful leopards. I'm in the bush most of the time. Wayne
always makes sure that I've got plenty to do day and night. He is the
best cat hunter that I know; if you are interested in hunting leopard
or lion in Zimbabwe or Tanzania give me a call and I will put you in contact
with Wayne. He has 2 Leopard/Lion trips left for Tanzania for next year
and will be running safaris all summer. If all goes right, I'll be there
next July. Wayne also shipped back a huge box of curios, African war shields,
spears & axe to sell if anyone is interested please contact me and
I will email you pictures. The price of the shield sets is $250.00 plus
shipping & handling.
